In September 1974, Jim Hughes left a promising career with the major tire companies to start his own tire and auto repair business. Along with his wife, Trudy, they opened Hughes Tire & Battery in Rock Island, Illinois. As the business grew, Jim and Trudy moved the business to Milan, Illinois in 1989. In November 2001, they changed the name to Hughes Tire & Brake and opened their second location in East Moline, Illinois. The family influence grew with the business. Their oldest son, Chuck, joined the company in the fall of 1989 and now manages the East Moline store. Scott, the younger son, graduated from Western Illinois University and joined the company in December 1996. He now manages the Milan store.

That family-owned pride is what sets Hughes Tire & Brake apart from the rest in the field. It has driven them to become one of the most trusted names in the Quad Cities community.
